Let us read aloud ‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’

Hey ya! In this post let us talk about the book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. This book written by L.Frank Baum was published in the year 1900. The book had sold 3 million copies by year 1956! It is an absolute must read aloud book for children of all ages.

In this book, Dorothy and her little dog Toto are in for the ride of their lives when a cyclone drops them off in the Land of Oz. Dorothy makes friends with the Scarecrow, Tin Woodman and the Cowardly Lion on way to meet the Wizard and find a way home.

The Scarecrow, who believes he has no brains, comes up with clever solutions to several problems on their journey. The Tin Woodman, who believes he lacks a heart, cries when he hurts even the tiniest creature. The Cowardly Lion, who believes he has no courage, shows bravery through their journey.

I appreciate reading this book for multiple reasons. The story plot is simple and enthralling. The book talks about the qualities each and every one of us possess regardless of external characteristics. The author has subtly praised the virtue of friendship, courage, modesty, hard work, patience and perseverance throughout the book.
My children enjoyed listening to the book for the world of magic, adventure, good, evil witch and wizards.

If you haven’t read the book, treat yourself to it this summer.

The next post will be about how to read aloud, giving each character a voice and identity. I will try and upload an audio recording of a chapter from the book ‘Winnie the Pooh’.

Meanwhile, please share with us your child’s favourite read aloud book. I will publish it with the next post.

Reading 10 minutes a day is all it takes to build a life long love for books and make a remarkable difference to your child’s performance.
