Happy 2017!
Look at this
spot-on graphic from Perry Public School in Kansas!
It demonstrates the long term
impact and difference between a child who reads 20 minutes every day and a
child who doesn’t read.
How important
it is for children to read books and read for pleasure, outside the school
curriculum! Children who do not read every day will simply fall behind in
almost all cases.
In our way of
education system with overwhelming home work and unit tests, it is very easy to
overlook or ignore the importance of reading books for pleasure.
However,
according to UNESCO, the biggest single indicator of whether a child is going
to thrive at school and in work is whether or not they read for pleasure.
Read books from different genres to your children until you find something that ignites
your child’s love for books.
At the onset
of 2017, let us try fostering a family culture of reading and reading aloud to
our children every single day.
